53 chevy rear axle

I have a 1953 chevy 210 on 13" daytons (wire rims). The rear axle shaft snapped in half so I replaced the axle with a used axle. Now the passanger side axle shaft snapped in half. I heard that i could put a chevy nova axle on it so that that will stop happening, but that I needed to change the transmission and some more stuff. But, I want to keep it as original as possible. I also heard that I could change the ratio. I have the original rims but I want to use the rims on it to. What options do I have? If you need more info please let me know what and how to get it. thank you.
